Landscaping in Piru, CA

Piru is a small unincorporated town east of Fillmore with older homes, rural lots, and fire-prone hills nearby. Summers are among the hottest in Ventura County, so landscaping here is about heat tolerance, water efficiency, and fire safety rather than lush lawns.

Landscaping for heat and fire

Heat-tolerant natives and Mediterranean plants with drip irrigation survive Piru summers with far less water than lawns. Shade trees placed to protect the house make a big difference. Fire-wise design, which keeps the area right next to the home clear of combustible plants and mulch, spaces vegetation, and removes dead material, is important on properties near the hills.

Water and permits

Piru is unincorporated, so the County of Ventura handles permits for walls, grading, and electrical. Check your water bill to see which provider serves your address, then ask about current turf replacement or irrigation rebates. Many programs require approval before any work starts.
